For the safety of our artists and guests, The Gathering will now be an online only sale.
Your Scottsdale’s Museum of the West and the Cowboy Artists of America (CAA) care deeply about the health and safety of our museum guests, artists, volunteers, and staff during this serious pandemic period of coronavirus. Please read the release below for more details of yesterday’s proactive, socially conscious decisions made to our exciting and anticipating CAA’s The Gathering Sales Exhibition from March 31-April 5, 2020. We remain confident that our many museum friends and CAA collectors will wish to support the artists and the museum by their participation in the sale of the miniature works on-line only now. Thank you for both your understanding of the necessity to restructure the originally planned events and your continued interest in the CAA’s exquisite art for sale.

In keeping with the worldwide increased efforts to limit the spread of coronavirus as seen in the arts by museums, fairs, concerts, theaters, and festivals, Western Spirit: Scottsdale’s Museum of the West (SMoW), and Cowboy Artists of America (CAA) jointly announced today that they are taking the precaution to help keep the public safe, and therefore, their upcoming sales exhibition, “The Gathering”, will now be a website only sale of the CAA artists’ miniature works.
The various public events planned for this celebration of the return of the CAA to its founding state of Arizona are canceled, including the Live Equine Paint Out at Scottsdale Artist School on April 1st, the two daytime panel discussions at the Stagebrush Theater, and the evening reception and live sale at the museum on April 2nd .
Information pertaining to the sale of the works is available on the museum’s website: scottsdalemuseumwest.org/caa.
From March 31 – April 5, images of the artworks will be posted on this site and during the evening of April 2nd winning purchasers will be notified. Those miniature works, including paintings, drawings, and sculpture, which are not sold on April 2nd , will be available for sale through April 5, 2020 on the website on a first-come basis.
“While it is appreciated that some of the most moving experiences in the museum scene occur when there are large crowds of guests, it is now the responsibility of our museum and the CAA organization to take these cautionary and preventive steps to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19 pandemic virus,” said Mike Fox, Director of SMoW. Martin Grelle, CAA Sale Exhibit chair, stated: “Our two organizations are concerned for the health and safety of our dear collectors and friends and based on national recommendations we have made the difficult decision to change this year’s “The Gathering” to an online sale only. We look forward with great excitement to realizing success in this socially responsible manner this year and to having next year’s event as it was intended to be and seeing everyone in person there in 2021!”
