Western Perspective:
The John and Charlotte Kimberlin Collection
October 11 – November 3, 2024
Cattle Raisers Museum | Fort Worth
Background artwork: Trouble at the Creek by Tom Ryan (1922-2011), CA
His family owned the original ranch owned by Oliver Loving, a legendary Texas rancher and the inspiration for the character Gus (played by Robert Duval) in the mini-series Lonesome Dove.
Her family owned the ranch near Angel Fire, New Mexico, where the Montana scenes for Lonesome Dove were filmed, thus bookending the real story and the fictional.
With their combined heritage and current holdings of portions of each of these ranches; short of the King or the 6666 ranches, it doesn’t get much closer to Texas ranch royalty than that!
John and Charlotte Kimberlin are very proud of their ranching heritage and are active members of the Texas & Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association. They are also avid Western art collectors. They collect both historical and contemporary images. Their support for the Cowboy Artists of America (CAA), including hosting the group’s annual trial ride on each of the ranches mentioned above, led to them being named honorary members.
On view are just a few of the highlights from their significant collection. Represented are some of the West’ s all-time great artists such as Maynard Dixon, Olaf Wieghorst and Frank Tenney Johnson. Also included are many famed CAA artists of the past including Joe Beeler, Tom Ryan, George Phippen, Melvin Warren, Robert Lougheed and James Boren.
This exhibition coincides with the annual CAA Exhibition and Sale taking place at the nearby Will Rogers Memorial Center. The Exhibition opens on Friday, November 1, and continues through the day on November 2, culminating with the Sale on Saturday evening, November 2.
