Back when Wayne was taking art lessons, a man stopped by the studio looking for a handout, but ended up being Wayne’s first paying collector. The man bought a pencil drawing, of a horse, for five dollars.
It has been said that, “Dedicated, quiet, polite, unassuming and persistent” are good descriptions of Wayne Baize. He is also a man of very few words and most of them are “Yes, sir” and “No, sir.” It is no surprise James Stewart is his favorite actor. This demeanor carries over into the attitude expressed in his paintings.
Wayne’s family is also very important to him. His work often includes likenesses of his cowboying brothers, Paige and Arlon, or his wife Ellen and their children, Elizabeth, William, Jonathan and Charles.
Wayne was once asked to comment on some of his more memorable CAA trail rides. He wrote about two rides, using a total of seventeen words.
He was born, raised and is still "a Texan."
